Schedule a Visit!
I’d love to come visit with your class or organization! We can meet in person if you are in the greater Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area, or we can do a virtual visit. As a former teacher and reporter, I’m interested in sharing about the Army’s all-Japanese American unit of WWII with everyone. I can also share about the writing process with writer’s groups or students.
Research can be exciting, because you might find out something that surprises you! That’s exactly what happened to me when I first heard about the Army’s all-Japanese American unit who fought during World War II. I never knew that these brave soldiers served our country.
If you research well, you should share what you learn, and writing is a great tool for this.
Teachers, I know your time with students is valuable, so I’ll tailor class visits to the Common Core Standards for your grade.
Topics include:
- Heroes Among Us: the all-Japanese American unit of WWII and the Japanese Internment 1942-1945.
- Mining for Facts: how to research effectively; select a topic, compile facts and structure findings
- Journalism – get the Scoop! How to listen, how to report and how NOT to report
For younger grades 1-2 students:
- What does Kindness look like? plus a craft
- You can write a story!
We can schedule a visit of 30-45 minutes, and multiple classes at the same school can be scheduled simultaneously.
We can schedule a reading of The Plum Neighbor plus Ask the Author time of 10 minutes.
Let me know what you prefer!
